Carol Golden
Executive Vice President & Chief Development Officer The Rhode Island Foundation
As the Foundation’s executive vice president and chief development officer, Carol Golden has overall responsibility for its asset development and donor stewardship activities. With the president, board of directors and senior staff, she helps set the strategic direction of the Foundation.
Carol joined the Foundation in 1991 as its first development professional. From 1993 to 2005, she served as senior vice president for philanthropic services, growing the one-person department to an eight-member development team with multi-faceted products and program offerings. Carol spearheaded the creation and launch of the Women's Fund of Rhode Island, Social Venture Partners Rhode Island, and the Foundation’s 1916 Society and Professional Advisory Council. Under Carol’s leadership, the Foundation has raised more than $300 million of which 80% is permanently endowed. She has participated in its growth from a base of approximately 400 endowment funds to a current total of more than 1,100 component funds including 130 endowments established by Rhode Island nonprofit organizations.
A Rhode Island native, Carol received her undergraduate degree from Drew University and a master's in community health from the University of Maryland. Before joining the Foundation, Carol served as an executive director of several nonprofit organizations. She and her husband, Stuart, make charitable grants through their donor advised fund, The Golden Einhorn Family fund, established in 1999 at The Rhode Island Foundation.
